CULLIGAN OF SIOUX CITY HISTORY

Mark Coffey, owner of Sioux City Culligan is the third generation of his family to operate the Culligan franchise in the Sioux City area. The business being established in 1939 and is one of the earliest franchises in Culligan history.

Culligan founder Emmett J. Culligan was born in 1893 in Yankton, South Dakota. His family moved to Sioux City before the turn of the century. Emmett was an entrepreneur who introduced the world to soft water in 1921. Emmett Culligan began franchising his soft water business in 1936 in Northbrook, Illinois.

In 1938 John Coffey, Mark’s grandfather, was offered a position with the newly established water conditioning Culligan franchise in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, originally called Sioux City Soft Water Service, Inc. Emmett Culligan was very impressed with John Coffey’s talent in the water industry and offered him the franchise in the Sioux City area in 1939. Mildred Coffey, John’s wife, assumed position of CEO when John passed away in 1945. Mildred Coffey operated the business from 1945 until her death in 1960. During this time she built the franchise’s current building at 1111 West 21st Street in Sioux City, Iowa. Sons Jerry and John and daughter Katherine became the second generation of Culligan owners. Through the years the water conditioning business continued to grow with the introduction of automatic softeners, drinking water systems and salt and bottled water delivery programs. Culligan became not only a household name, but a leading force in commercial water treatment systems.]

One of 8 grandchildren Mark Coffey attended the University of Iowa. After graduation Mark returned to Sioux City to assist in the family water business. Mark has since purchased the business from family members and is the third generation of the Coffey family to own and operate this Culligan franchise.

Culligan of Sioux City was awesome to work with! Called 1 day for a quote on renting and/or owning they were super friendly, and eager to assist. My wife was home at install date said the installers were just the same, they even tested our water pressure for us and brought to our attention that we actually had TOO much pressure going through our home. They helped and saved us there before we possibly had pipes burst. Can't say enough good about everyone we dealt with!! Highly recommend Culligan of Sioux City to all

Very consistent service. I have them deliver salt monthly and they are the ones that add it to the tank. We always have soft water and I never need to worry about picking up salt. When all things are considered, its cheaper for me to have Culligan do it, than to do it myself.
